When will Filipinos vote wisely?

Philippine Daily Inquirer / 04:01 AM August 10, 2020

Transposing some of Richard Heydarian’s ending words in “Duterte: The question of succession” (Opinion, 7/28/20), I could somehow reframe his final point to this effect: “The coming months state that decisive crisis-management capital is under public scrutiny that will factor in Mr. Duterte’s withering political shape post-2022.”

Not to sound too supercilious, but could the supermajority of Filipinos just quit messing around and stop putting narcissistic, knuckle-brained weaklings in the highest seat of the land? Both usually turn out privately motivated despite the “public service” tag that goes with the position.

When will voter maturity successfully set in?

Reform on Philippines political and electoral system. They should not allow candidate with past or pending criminal records to run on an election. This people got nothing to lose, they have killed before and will kill again in the name of politics.

As Clinton used to say, “It’s the voting system, stupid!”

We need a system that allows for the winning candidate to have been voted/elected by the majority of the voters.

Check on “preferential voting system”.

Habang may mga taong bumoboto sa mga tulad nina Lapid, Revilla, Pacquiao, Go, de la Rosa, Marcoses, de Castro, at iba pang mga INUTIL na politiko ay hindi magiging matalino ang mga botante!

Agree....I hope they will vote for President Duterte's candidate to continue his legacy of Build Build Build.

This can be done only if they vote wisely.

Not in a million years. Filipinos, at least majority are dhumb and estooped. The country needs cleaning up. What is needed is to get rid of them and replace with new breed. That's the only way.

Ang daming reasons kung bakit! Isa na siguro yung nakikita ng botante ang sarili nilang ugali sa ibinoboto nila.

Well, for as long as the crooked politicians dangle P100-500 in front of the voters face, forget about honest voting. If you ask those people who are in need of this miserable sum they will only say they can't eat proper voting. Even if it is explained to them the consequences of voting for corrupt politicians. They don't give a hoot. For them it is all about money. Nothing can beat that.

But the supermajority of Filipinos are attracted to narcissistic, knuckle-brained weaklings.

They want to be abused.

Those sm also enjoy the rape jokes, the cursing of God, the Pope, EU, the US, ex Pres. Obama at that time. The ape was super siga siga and those idiots who voted for him enjoyed that. Now, it's them who suffer from hunger, covid victims, etc. and their idol, the ape and his minions are at a loss on how to deal with the pandemic.

Served them right.

As long as there are Bisayas in this land, this country will never have enough intelligence to lift itself up.

It is not just about voters learning how to vote wisely, it is about offering them a choice of creditable, reliable and trusted candidates in any form of elected post. Oligarchies, political dynasties, wealth, money, and those with a network of contacts and influential people rise to the top. Where are the candidates who are working in the interests of the people and not for their own gain?

"Working in the interest of the people"? There's no such thing. Most of them are in the government service for the love of money. NEVER for the love of country and its people. This is the sad and disgusting truth.

Maybe its abt time we change the term of the presidency from a fixed 6 year term to 2 terms of 4 years each so that there is an incentive to do well since you have to run for reelection

It was like that before. The reason why it was changed to what it is now. NO second timer. However, no matter how and what system, there's one thing that it is already ingrained in the crooked politicians; to become millionaires in a very short time; without working hard. It is not difficult to dip their filthy fingers in the government coffers. They are all a disgrace to the human kind.

Well, it is quite difficult to avoid that; especially if one of the contenders is dokleng Pakyaw. The idiot is very much interested to rule the country. There is also the effing Chjinese, Bong gaGo. It will be a complete disaster for the country.
